The Power of the Past

October 18 @ 10:00 am - 11:15 am
Free – $20

with Ann Y. K. Choi, Elinor Florence, and Jack Wang

Historical fiction has the power to transport us to the past, and inspires us to live more powerfully in the present. Join celebrated authors Ann Y. K. Choi, Elinor Florence, and Jack Wang as they sit down and talk about all things historical fiction with moderator Maia Caron.

From one woman’s remarkable journey from illiterate villager to reluctant revolutionary to one of the voices of her generation in 1920s Japanese-occupied Korea (All Things Under the Moon), to a rollicking homesteading sisterhood who “fire the heather,” defying the patriarchy in turn-of-the-century Alberta (Finding Flora), and a cross-cultural love story set against the dramatic backdrop of the Allied invasion of Europe during WWII (The Riveter), these authors will share why they believe stories about love, identity, rebellion, war, sacrifice, destiny, racial prejudice, and sisterhood can help us navigate an increasingly chaotic world. Join us and ask your own questions of these three gifted storytellers.
