Forest Poet/Tree Walk

October 18 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
$20 – $30

with Tawahum Bige, Stephen Collis, Aisha Sasha John, and Karen Solie

A much-loved event at the Victoria Festival of Authors’, the Forest Poet/Tree Walk returns this year. Come explore W̱MÍYEŦEN (wh-my-eh-then: place of the deer) Nature Sanctuary (formerly known as Mary Lake). Join Yvonne Blomer as she leads you through the shadows of cedar and oak, with the call of red-winged blackbirds echoing along Earsman Creek. We will walk the trails through Coastal Douglas-fir forest and along the shores of Mary Lake.
Guest poets who will join Yvonne on W̱SÁNEĆ land to share their poems and celebrate language and the natural world include Tawahum Bige, Stephen Collis, Aisha Sasha John, and Karen Solie.

Please be aware that this event is a forest walk: bring appropriate shoes, raingear, and energy for an hour-plus walk through the woods and trails, with stops along the way for poems. Be prepared for the weather, and be aware that distractions from flickers, herons, mink, or beaver may occur as we walk with these poets through the forest.

The walk will end at the nature house, where tea will be served and Munro’s Books will be selling the authors’ books.
